This is an exciting time of year – December and Holidays!
Oh, Please give this jam a listen! It’s so fun finding songs that go with the blog, Lena and I giggle as we search and listen for just the right groove to share with you! Click below to listen to: Sugar by Trick Daddy featuring Ludacris, Lil Kim & Cee-Lo
I’m kicking this month off with a Podcast Interview with Dr. Carolyn Ross, MD PHD…One of my favorite people! Be sure to give it a listen ’cause we had the “sugar talk” and what it does to our bodies! Click here to check it out!
I will share a brief image with you – when you heat sugar up in a pan on the stove it crackles, bubbles and burns. When you take room temperature sugar and put into a body that is at least 98 degrees , this sugar hits our hot blood and the bubble, sizzle, crackle burn is on. Causing inflammation where this blood rests – INSIDE our bodies. Our blood becomes acidic and then disease moves in, it is a KNOWN fact that Cancer thrives in an acidic atmosphere….SO if you want to be preventative get your gram-reading-self on and peep what your eating!
I had NO idea just how much sugar my body was taking in, in fact if someone asked me if I ate a ton of sugar I’d say nope, I was a salty gal…
That was until I decided I needed to make some changes…one of those changes when facing an inflammatory disorder is to CUT sugar for 3 months and then only reintroduce small increments in a more natural way, like brown rice syrup and agave. Fo’sho I thought OH, this will be easy – the dairy seemed way tougher…HA,haha…Once I started paying attention to what had sugar in it, my vision of what I was really eating took over. For starters reading labels was new to me, when I say reading labels that means what’s in it and if I didn’t know, then Google became my friend.
What I soon learned, was just how addicted to sugar I truly was! I needed a sweet fix, if only a bite of chocolate or a cookie after every meal, I craved muffins, breads and donuts with hot coffee loaded with sugar! I LOVED a vanilla soy latte…dang! I now know that I was probably taking in at least 40 teaspoons of sugar a day! Can you imagine having a sugar bowl on your coffee table and taking 40 teaspoons a day through out your day up until bed?
Part of this diet is also avoiding all “man made ingredients” or man modified ingredients. Basically boxed and frozen foods are out of the question since almost ALL of them have something man manufactured. What the real shocker was though: sugar, what does “grams of sugar” mean? I don’t carry a scale around, so understanding this is tough, what helped was learning how many teaspoons of sugar are in 4 grams of sugar – the answer 1 teaspoon. So when buying boxed cereal I was BLOWN away as I walked the aisles dividing my teaspoons into to grams!
Somewhere along the way we have adopted excuses for our sugar fixes. Here is the classic “My sugar gets crazy and I need a coke or something.” Ha,ha…ha..NO that is a symptom of addiction and you are JONESIN’ dude…You are craving a fix “mang” (sorry, couldn’t resist “Scarface”).
Peep this video I just watched on Good Morning America...check it out here!
What you really need is to restructure your entire diet, so that you don’t jones no’mo…..
In the beginning of this diet I was given this recipe and told to drink it every day…guess what? It worked RAPIDO!
I no longer jones and when I do get a bit of sweetness, I can actually taste it! For example I now KNOW that sweet potato’s don’t need marshmallow, brown sugar or honey they are slam bammin’ sweet all by themselves…I had to clean out my body and detox my taste buds to re-taste food.
Good luck…on your sweet journey.
This is really yummy and is like drinking veggie soup broth…I promise you will like it!
This has a milder effect on the body compared with refined sugar or even sugar from fruits and fruit juices. Thus, it helps to balance the blood sugar level and leave a comfortable feeling.
To prepare sweet vegetable drink, you need:
- 1/4 cup carrot
- 1/4 cup cabbage
- 1/4 cup pumpkin or squash
- 1/4 cup large onion
Grate or finely cut the vegetables.
Add four cups water and bring to the boil. Reduce fire and simmer for about 20 to 30 minutes.
Strain and drink only the liquid.
You can eat the veggies too, and store the broth in a covered container in the fridge so you have it for a couple days, be sure to drink a cup of broth at least once a day but the more time the better!
