PKIA KNOW IT ALLS: My contributing editors!
What is a fortune if it’s not shared?
Some folks collect jewels, baubles, art, dollars, cars, purses or shoes. I collect amazing people to share the dinner table with.
When I was 16, I worked in a nursing home as a nurses’ aid. The job was physically tough but super rewarding. I loved sitting with the old people and listening to who they had been and what they learned. One woman in particular would tell me every afternoon the tale of a different place around the world. At the end of the summer I asked her how she managed to travel to so many places in her life? With a giggle and smile she said, “Via listening to others’ stories.”
I was sold. I knew adventure was in my future…all I had to do was ask questions and listen to the answers. To this day, when I don’t know something, I am the first person to find someone who does. When I decided to launch this online magazine I asked some of my favorite experts–who also happen to be among my favorite dining partners–to join me in my quest for health and beauty. I present to you my list of Go-To Know-It-All’s!
PRINCESS KNOW IT ALL (MEE TRACY- MCCORMICK) EDITOR IN CHIEF:
I grew up in Oberlin, Ohio—one of the final stops on the Underground Railroad—and I spent my childhood looking for Harriett Tubman. Instead of playing with Barbie’s, I was pretending to help free slaves. By the time I was seven, my relationship with Harriett posed two questions to me: “What type of woman would I be,” and “Would I walk an un-cleared path to become that woman?” I have been striving to answer those questions ever since. I was educated at Kent State, the University of Maryland, and the Lee Strasburg Institute in Hollywood. I’ve worked every job from changing diapers in an old folk’s home to cleaning the pole in a nudie bar. I’ve waitressed, bartended, been a stylist, modeled, acted and sung back up. Now my days are filled with working on my first series of books, launching PKIA and mothering my two small children. We live in Sayulita, Nayarit Mexico and Nashville, Tennessee. |
